Mary,

Awesome story and tell him I wish him a speedy recovery.

BTW he most likely would have been staged a IV (perhaps a III) if he were diagnosed today with that factual pattern. Heck he could have been HPV+, maybe the first ever. lol

Within two days after I got my cancer diagnosis I found my longtime golf buddys brother had what seems like an almost identical cancer to mine. Lymph nodes in the same spot, but no primary was found. His cancer was in 95 and hes been fine ever since. Also, I had to be reminded that one of my co-workers had a lesion on his tongue removed five years ago and is fine. The co-worker lost quite a bit of extra weight during treatment and has kept off and looks a lot better now than before.

So, add a 14- and 5-year survivor to the list of people who gotten on with their lives with little problems other than dry mouth.
Along with this website, these two people added great support during my treatment.

Mary u,
Why would becoming a total larygectomee make him unable to speak? I had the surgery in 2001 and can both eat and talk just fine with the normal food restrictions due to dry mouth. Actually, the surgery allowed me to eat many foods I couldn't eat before because I no longer could asperate food. I have a TEP which allows me to speak. If that wouldn't work, then he could use an electro-larynx. If you want to talk, I'd be glad to give you my number, however, I am on vacation until the 12th of August.

Hey guys, don't I qualify as one of the longer term suvivors? And don't forget Brian.

Take care,
Eileen
