I came here last year to get advice and support for my father in law, who was diagnosed with stage IV SCC oral tongue. Upon glossectomy nodal involvement was found, and he underwent IMRT and
Erbitux treatments. There were some rough periods, but the worst is now over. He has had clean scans for the past 6 or so months and his main annoyance is not enough saliva production. He is doing really well and after four months of living with him and MIL in India I am back in the good old USA with my husband.
If it was not for this site, we wouldn't have known about
Erbitux. I wouldn't have pressed the doctor to prescribe it ( a necessity in India). I think that alone has saved my FIL from a lot of suffering and problems at a minimum, and I thank the moderators of this forum, the Foundation, and the members who are all here that supported me and continue to support others. I will also be making a humble
donation to the OCF very soon.
Now that some time has passed and I have had a break from the stress and feel relief that we are "on the other side", I will come back from time to time, and will help in any way I can. Those of you who are suffering need to realize that people are out there who care and need to feel useful: put us to work! Don't do this on your own!!!
I'd be most useful to those undergoing treatment in North India, and was happy to be able to help somebody oin India recently. One damn slogan should stay with everyone fighting right now because it is true: cancer is curable.
God bless and much love to everyone,
Tasha
