Welcome to OCF. I assume by Brian's post that he has urged you to get a biopsy done rather than waiting for 2 weeks. With a white, hard area on the tongue, especially with someone that has a history of SCC, I would fully agree with that recommendation.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.
