hello all. i'm new here, so hi! my dad is 54, was dx with a tumor at the base of his tongue in dec and underwent 7 weeks of radiation every day and 3 rounds of chemo. found out today it didn't work....the dr.s were hoping to not do surgery but he has to have a partial glossectomy on 4/23. we are not sure yet how much of the tongue they will have to remove.
i wondered if anyone has undergone a similar procedure? any insight on what to expect, or anything that i can do to help him? my mom is his primary caregiver, so i am sometimes left feeling helpless. any dads out there with 20 something kids who can offer insight on what i should or should not do?
in addition, i'm not sure if my dad would be willing to participate in this forum. but i think he might appreciate a good survivor story from someone who underwent treatment similar to his own. can anyone offer me their experiences and status now after having had a partial glossectomy? thank you every one in advance....this is all still pretty raw.
