My son has throat spasms every once in a while, but they don't seem to bother him too much. It's been about a year since the end of his Radiation treatment for tongue cancer and he did not have chemo. I'm sure there will be others responding who have had more direct experience, but this is also something you should make sure and mention to your doctor. About the smoking, I have another son who is trying to quit smoking and he told me just yesterday that since he got interested in one of those electronic games that his son got for Christmas, it has decreased his smoking quite a bit! Maybe that would be something to try?
