Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 1,627 | Jim, I'm coming up on 3 years since my surgery (April 16th) and I had one CAT scan done before surgery and have had no more then a chest Xray since. Chest Xray once a year. Just had my 3rd year one, it was clear. I am a firm believer that a physical exam is the gold standard, as Brian puts it, and I also believe that my doctor is my best line of defense for detecting a recurrence. I am perfectly ok with not having a PET scan twice a year!
SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.
