Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,384 Likes: 1 | The areas that were radiated are and will be more prone to sunburn and from what I have heard a higher potential for skin cancers. The first summer I was very careful and kept the skin covered. Over time, I have been less concerned and less careful. Now after 4 years the area is only mildly more prone to sunburn.
Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
