My husband had the tube put in at the beginning of chemo/rad, began using it after 3 weeks of treatment. He had it in a total of about 5 months. He lost about 50 lbs. since diagnosis, so the PEG was a must. He went 6 weeks without talking at all and about 4 months with nutrition by PEG only.

Debbie - Caregiver for husband, Dan, diagnosed with tongue cancer 7/03. Partial gloss., mod. neck dissections, graft. Recurrence neck tumor 12/03. Radical left neck dissection 12/24/03-unable to get all the tumor. 8 weeks chemo/rad beginning 1/12/04.
