Patient Advocate (1000+ posts) Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 1,627 | Hello Tedebear, I had pretty much the same operation as your wife had, although they replaced my jawbone with the small bone from my leg. Why didn't they replace your wifes? I also did radiation and lost half of my bottom teeth. I had the operation April 16, 2003 and ended radiation last July. My mouth opens as wide as it did pre surgery, my biggest issue is that the left half of my lower lip is numb and that is bothersome to me. I am in the process of getting implants now. Your wife needs to find a dentist that is familiar with someone that has had their mouth radiated and that dentist will set her up with a treatment plan. There is no reason for her to go without teeth. Minnie
SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.
