I had some salivary glands removed during surgery, and also had conventional radiation so that the remaining glands were pretty well toasted. Notwithstanding that, I've gotten back a surprising amount of salivary function over time.
I agree with Minnie that it probably makes sense to ask more questions about the reasoning in your case.
