If they have identified an area on an adjacent tooth that is causing the irritation, a restoration with a sharp edge perhaps, they should be doing something to remove that abrasive feature. If they have ground or polished that area, and the sore is not resolved in 14 days, I want you to please consider having it looked at by someone else. The oral environment heals very quickly, and anything that does not resolve in two weeks deserves a referral to another doctor further up the food chain who is experienced in looking at early SCC's. Don't let anyone watch this thing for months without some type of resolution to the problem or referral to a specialist for a different type of evaluation, even a small, almost painless biopsy if it is still there.
