Anyone survive mucosal melanoma? Its normally a very aggressive cancer with poor survival rates, but for some reason it has not metastsized to the lymphs in me. I was first diagnosed 2 years ago,at 48, but may well have had the cancer for a year or two before that, as I had several periodontal procedures before the cancer was diagnosed. I have had high fraction radiation and 3 resections of the gum, and a small part of the bottom of my tongue removed, and may be headed for a 4th procedure. Inspite of this I continue to feel well and vital, and not the least bit sick. While normally this type of cancer spreads quickly, so far it has not in me. It is sobering to read the info on the web about this, and my doctor assures me I am not the typical case of this kind cancer. 5 year survial rate are something like 10%. Anyone else in that lucky 10%?
