Now, 50 years later I have had my first surgery (June) to remove an in situ cancer. They removed about 25% of my tongue on the right side. The tumor was successfully removed and my lymph nodes were clear. This is a great relief. Since the leukoplakia is distributed over most of the surface they have proposed a second surgery to remove the surface 3mm of the rest of my tongue. The progression of my leukoplakia to cancer was very slow, I have a certain level of reservation about the urgency verses change in quality of life from getting the whole of the surface of the remainder of my tongue removed. I'd be interested to know whether anyone else has been subjected to this type of procedure. (I call it the potato peeler approach) Happy to compare notes on Leukoplakia and categories/behavior Best regards Martin | | | |
