I don't know how to help with the scar pain, but I'm finding to relieve the thick saliva production is to gargle warm salty water really helps to clear it. I do it whenever I go to the bathroom (Or sometimes kitchen if I'm feeling lazy).
If my throat is feeling sensitive, the I just rinse my mouth out with the warm water. The niggest help is to keep everything as clean as possible.
