Hello, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because my cancer (throat larynx) was cured. I was diagnosed in April, 2010. Started treatment in June 2010 - had the maximum amount of radiation that you can ever have. I don't mean to sound like a "cry baby" and my doctors have told me that I'm lucky to be alive. But I want to find out if anyone else has had the after effects that I am going through. The docs don't seem to know what to do.
1. I've always been a small to medium size person (eat 1/2 less than I did before the treatment) and I am still gaining weight (35 lbs so far).
2. Treatment killed my thyroid function. Am on synthroid but it doesn't seem to working like it should. Can't seem to find the right dosage.
3. Really bad breathing problems. I am told that the radiation put scar tissue on my lungs, making it difficult to breathe in a good breath. I am seeing a pulmonary and am on 3 different inhalers twice a day, but seems to be getting worse, which of course keeps me from being able to exercise to help me lose some of this weight.
4 I have some kidney and liver issues also from the chemo. So far able to keep that under control.
After reading this, it looks like I'm a whiny little baby, but just hoping that someone recognizes the symptoms. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sandy
