Easier said than done, but the simple fact is that it's not at all uncommon to wait longer than 6 weeks. I'm in my 5th treatment regimen, and I think I started a new round of treatment(s) in under 6 weeks exactly once. Hell, the second time was 3 months, and this time has worked out to 6 weeks.
And don't overlook the need to pack your father with lots of calories each and every day; as well as drinking a minimum of 64 oz (8 each, 8 oz glasses) of water daily.
