I've had 4 surgeries on my tongue (2 outpatient, 2 overnight), plus teeth removed 3 times (all out patient). Since I didn't have your exact procedure it is hard to estimate how long you will be out of work. It varied for me.
My last 2 surgeries were at Johns Hopkins and they did "frozen sections" during surgery to determine what needed to be removed. This is a question to ask your doctor as not all hospitals do these during surgery. Regardless, the official biopsy will be done after surgery where they have more time to examine the tissue.
