I'll second what David said. We're not diagnosticians and can't tell you what that is from looking at a photo or by descriptions of symptoms. Definitely seek out an ENT to check it out and keep us in the loop.

Now...about smoking. I was a smoker (cigarettes, pipe and cigars) for 35 years. I drank a bit too in my youth. My cancer was caused by tobacco and alcohol use as well as being HPV positive which I'm sure I came into contact with when I was a young man as well.

Regardless of how this turns out, QUIT! No if's,and's or but's. Also, look into the HPV vaccine.
