You will find a wealth of information here and I just checked and put "granulation" in the search box. You will find a wealth of information including some of my own posts.
I would be happy to send you some photo's however I did lose around 1/3 of my tongue with a graft from my wrist unlike what it sounds like you have had done.
Most of my issues have been with granulation,scare tissue and leukoplakia along the seam (front) of the flap and tongue. Over the years I have had debulking, surgery that nibbled away at the scare tissue and silver nitrate sticks applied. I was often told that if I had one more tooth removed (had 4 removed bottom back) during my 2006 surgery I would not have had so many issues.
I truely understand your anxiety however you appear to be in good hands with your surgeons. Feel free to ask me anything you want.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.

1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family
