About a month ago Paul got a prescription for the magic mouthwash (lidocaine, maalox, and bendryl). I have really good insurance and they would not cover this concoction because 2 of the ingredients are over the counter ingredients. Therefore it cost about $60 to fill it. He really needed it though, so I sucked it up and paid it. I got to talking to the pharmacist and she recommended we ask our doctor to write the Rx for 500 ml lidocaine only with a note that I can mix the other ingredients in myself with the supervision of the pharmacist. Our doctor wrote up the prescription and I filled it today. The pharmicist put 100 ml of lidocaine in 5 different bottles. I bought the OTC "generic" Maalox and Benedryl and added 100 ml of each to each of the 5 bottles while the pharmacist watched. They were very good about and were happy to have save me money. The cost was $25 instead of $60.
