Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 43 | I have the same issue on both sides now. I have small pockets on each side where what's left is still attached. Small hard pieces of food, seed, nuts etc get in there and irritate tissues. I still don't eat spicy foods, vinegary foods though six years later. I haven't had any return of saliva though like some have.
Type and stage of cancer:1st - SCC left base of oral tongue non HPV, T3N1M0 hemi-glossectomy 60 node rem, radX35 carboplatnum &Erbitux X6, Peg tube, lost 55 lbs
2nd - SCC right base oral tongue, surgery, Cisplatin & Erbitux x 16
3rd - SCC right base oral tongue, surgery, hope.
