I had tonsil cancer, stage IV, so I had to have radiation and chemo following my tonsillectomy. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation - I know there are milder doses of radiation that can be administered that would have lesser after effects, so perhaps talk to your doctor about that. Some, like me, had to have a more aggressive radiation which did, and still does, have side effects, but it beats a recurrance. I guess I would opt for being better safe than sorry. Maybe get a second opinion from a doctor who specializes in that type cancer. I wish you the best of luck, and let us know your decision.

Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. TX completed January 2008. PEG out mid- 2008. PET/CT 1/17/2011;2/3/12 NEGATIVE for cancer
