MarkT, You will find a lot of these kind of stories. The only way I know you can be sure is to have a tissue biopsy removed and sent to a pathologist for microscopic analisis. You should contact the ENT Dr. and ask him to do this. At the same time contact your family physician and discuss things with him GET ANOTHER REFERRAL. The ENT may be right but without the biopsy there he could not be sure.
