i was talking with a local periodontist this week about HPV, and was surprised when he called me to say he'd been thinking about that conversation and found an oral test, a mouth swish used to test for HPV. he's not trying to sell me, we have a friend in common, so this is more conversation, but it got me thinking: and then what? detecting presence of HPV seems to be a hurry up and wait thing. for cervical cancer, you can be monitored more effectiively (?) but what value does this offer for potential oral cancer?
