Over 30 days out from treatment.
The last two weeks have been rough. The decadron really did a number on my immune system so I got a pretty rough secondary infection in my backside region. It's been a bit of a nightmare actually. A huge amount of pain associated sitting, moving, laying down and going to the bathroom..... and a difficult time with Dx. Went through 3 doctors before an RO nurse practitioner finally recognized what was going on and got me the the appropriate medication. I am on the mend now and feeling much better but for anyone else who is being given decadron, pay super close attention to any kind of outbreaks or sniffles or ANYTHING resembling an infection and get back to your MO/RO asap. Do not wait because the immune suppression is serious business with that drug. I have had 4 trips to the ER, each time I was dehydrated. It happens so fast. If you find yourself sick and sleeping a lot, make sure someone knows to bring you fluids and keep you hydrated. Otherwise the next thing you know you wake up and are so weak you can barely function. Dangerous territory.
The good news. Throat swelling is almost non-existent. There is still a touch of discomfort but it's barely noticeable. Also, my taste has recovered remarkably. I can taste most things at around 70%, although nothing has the full flavor it used too. I am hoping that I will continue to recover and my taste will be normal again in time. My strength is returning as well. I had gotten extremely weak due to this last infection, sleeping, short of breath when moving from room to room. But I am doing much better now.
Hopefully my immunities have recovered enough to keep anymore infections at bay, if so than I hope this next week sees me return to mostly normal. Just in time to decorate for Halloween!!
