Getting a second opinion was crucial for me. It was a difference between losing 1/4 of my lower jaw, having another neck dissection,and radiation treatment which was the course laid out by one team , which I did not question at first until I came to this forum and was motivated to get another opinion. The surgeon I went with did everything inside the mouth no trach, no neck dissection, was able to determine the cancer did not go into the jaw bone by taking a sample instead of performing an over the top surgery like the other team wanted to do.
