For now I am praying that Carol will not need a replacement. If she does, I will be happy to give you some practical advice. The healing is slower in the leg than in the jaw but eventually other than a scar, the surgery leaves no long term problems. The plastic surgeon who did the reconstruction of my mandible said that he prefers to use the free flap from the same side as the original mandibulectomy.
