Well I am certainly feeling much better. Basically the doctor said that if I did not tell him about my previous Hodgkins Lymphoma experience, he would have completely dismissed the lumps as enlarged lingual tonsils. He said they we totally unremarkable. He did however put an endoscope through my nose to have a look at the back of my throat (since there is lots of lymphoid tissue there and also the lingual tonsil itself is made up of lymphoid tissue and to ensure that there are no lesions in the back of my throat). He noted that I generally have a lot of lymphoid tissue at the back of my throat and he was totally relaxed that this was also presenting itself on the lateral, posterior side of my tongue. He believed that a biopsy was an overkill at this stage. He said that he was sure it was not SCC. He took measurements of the lesions and we can review after a few months but he is not expecting this to be anything sinister at all.

So all in all, a good trip to the UK which I am glad I did.

Thanks guys for your information and advice.
