Well, I had my follow up apt. with both my oncologist and my prosthodontist today. First of all my prosthodontist is again insisting that I NOT wear the obturator at night. He said I have a lot of inflamation, and that the area can not heal if I am wearing it 24/7. I told him that the only reason that I started wearing it at night was it was too painful in the mornings. He replied that this was a good sign because it means blood is flowing to the site and that is what is necessary for healing. So I guess I am back to that. He would not do the impressions today and wants this to heal more first. So I go back in Jan. for impressions for the transitional obturator. Then I saw my oncologist and I told him about the pain that I was having, especially when I eat. He tells me that I need to clean the site more and I should be using a water jet cleaner. This is the first time I ever hear this! I have done everything they have told me to do. I brush at least four times a day, and rinse with salt water. He acted like this was something I should have been doing all along. If it was why don't they tell you this in the beginning??? Of course it was really cute because the resident lingered back to repair the damages after the Dr. left the room.
