For those of you who read this post and/or Megan's sticky post 2009 Cancer Fighters Awards Show Inspiring Impact and Engagement on the importance of voting, yet did not bother to vote: All is forgiven. Yes, in the spirit of North Korea, I, who am an exalted legend in my own mind, do bestow a special pardon upon you all. And to show there are no hard feelings, despite the rather pointed edge to my final urgings, let me share with you WHAT YOU MISSED OUT ON. Everyone who did vote got a nice email from Great non Profits with the following press release, copied here for the non-voters. enjoy

[quote] 2009 Cancer Fighters Awards Show Inspiring Impact and Engagement

During the month of July, you and the rest of the GreatNonprofits community across the country participated in the 2009 Cancer Fighters Awards by posting reviews about nonprofits working in the cancer community. Hosted by GreatNonprofits, Planet Cancer, and Guidestar, the response to this campaign was amazing! More than 1800 reviews were posted of over 120 organizations. The great diversity of organizations reviewed combined with the large number of reviews posted shows the incredible passion and commitment these groups inspire...

This is the first ever list providing reviews of cancer fighting nonprofits by those who have actually experienced their work. These unique results will be helpful to donors and supporters looking to get involved with cancer organizations. The Oral Cancer Foundation in Newport Beach, Calif. was the winner for small budgets of less than $250K, and WeSpark Cancer Support Center of Sherman Oaks, Calif., won for budgets between $250K and $1M. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation in Irvine, Calif., was the winner of organizations with budgets over $1M.

Regional winners of the Cancer Fighters Awards include the I'm Too Young For This! in the Northeast, Spirit Jump in the South, Mission4Maureen in the Midwest, Breast Cancer Prevention Fund in the Northwest, Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation in the West, and First Descents in the Mountain region.

Honorable Mentions are The American Cancer Society, Cancer Schmancer Foundation, and The Seany Foundation.

A big thank you to all of you who participated in the 2009 Cancer Fighters Awards and helped a cancer fighting nonprofit gain visibility.
