Just got back from my three month checkup with my prosthodontist
He was doublchecking my left mandible because of a comment by the MRI radiologist when he asked me if I had been having a tickling feeling there. I had indeed.
Turns out that the flap from my wrist that was grafted onto the tongue reconstruction had finally sprouted hair that grew long enough to tangle up the mucous and hold it all,
Using tweezers he gingerly pulled and twisted until a nice solid slimy mess of hair and mucous came out. Feels much better now.
Wonder what will happen to my tongue this Friday when the full moon happens wink
Keep the faith

Charm,
I bet it does feel lots better! Are they going to have to continue to "tweeze and twist" on a regular basis in order to prevent you from becoming a werewolf? (we'll just have to remember to call you Jake from Twilight) That's my connection with the younger set from my teaching coming into play there.

Charm-Neil was always concerned about that. The doctors told him that hair would not grow there but how could it not? Good thing you have an awesome sense of humor!

Boy, thats something else! Never would have expected that one! I take it as a good sign you are healing. That hair growing long enough to trap some mucous means the flap really took. Thats what my plastic surgeon says anyway----when hair grows on the flap part its a good sign. Im so glad that it wasnt anything to be concerned about and easily corrected.

Cant wait to see you in a couple weeks!

Charm,

Tims flap from his leg started growing hair in his mouth and the surgeons sent him to a radiation oncologist to burn it off. Its very expensive and very painful (in many ways). Hot wax might be almost as painful, but its a minor fraction of the cost.

Someone else on the board mentioned laser removal.

Yes I know someone else who has the same problem... Sorry folks kind of ack-ish if you know what I mean... This person's dr. recommended laser...
Now - I've had laser on a scar on my face and I have to say, it is not exquisitely painful... But it is uncomfortable - and I have a high pain tolerance - I can't imagine having it done to my tongue... My graft is from the inside of my wrist which is thankfully hair free...

Waxing - even a cold wax strip might be better...

But glad you are feeling better charm!
