Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 79 | My brother received some great news yesterday: the CT scan was clean and the doctors can find no evidence of the tumor. He still has a lot of recovery ahead of him, but we are all very happy with this week's news. To go from a Stage 4 tumor to "seeing nothing" is the most incredible news anyone could ever hear.
Joe did elect to have the nasal feeding tube put in just after Christmas. He didn't want to have an incision for a peg tube and chose to go this route. I asked questions about this topic on the board ... and just wanted to share that the nasal tube has turned out to be an ok option for him.
He still has to have a biopsy done in a couple of weeks, but the docs seem to think that everything looks ok now.
I want to give a public shout-out to Joe's great team at the University of Chicago Medical Center: Dr. Victoria Villaflore (oncologist), Dr. Kerstin Stenson (surgeon), Dr. Daniel Haraf (radiologist), Dr. Ezra Cohen (oncologist for the EPOC study) and all of the wonderful nurses and staff.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Agree with David that you need to edit your siggie so everyone can note the important info: dx date and area affected, treatment info, finish info...helps us all to provide better communication.

PEG OUT: 1/08
PORT OUT: 4/09
FOLLOWUP: Now only annual exams. ALL CLEAR!

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

That's the same team (Plus Dr. V) who took me from Stage IV to clear. February 6th will mark 4 years since the end of treatment, and still clear.

SCC Stage IV right tonsil T3N3M0. Dx 08/03. Clinical Trial:8 weeks Taxol, Carboplatin then Hydrea, 5FU, IMRT x's 48, SND, Iressa x 2yrs. Now 20 years out and thriving. Dealing with a Prostate cancer diagnosis now. Add a Bladder cancer diagnosis to all the fun.

Grant Aschatz (the chef from Alinea) also had the same team ... he was about two weeks ahead of my brother.
