| Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 1 Member | OP Member Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 1 | I am a survivor of head/neck cancer, SCC to be precise, diagnosed at end of 08/05, surgery in October of same year, a 15-hour job to replace part of tongue with stuff from wrist (including nerves) along with a radical neck disection, followed by chemo (cisplatin) and radiation.
Subsequently, I was diagnosed with lung cancer, June of '07. They said I had '10 months to live', but were wrong: they misdiagnosed most of the stuff in my neck (and face) as cancer, when it was really an infection. The end result was a lobectomy, but that was better than the alternative.
I am now NED (No Evidence of Disease). I am a big contributor at CSN, but new to this one.

How did the nerve transplant go with you? Also, was your lung cancer SCC from the oral cancer or a form of lung cancer?

cg to husband, 48 Stage 1V head and neck SCC. First surgery 9/07. Radiation and several rounds of chemo followed. Mets to chest and lungs. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Went home to God on February 22, 2009.

I m part of this for life ...

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April. --- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here
