Hi Nancy, PEG removal is really a very simple procedure.
Deflate the ballon and pull out. It's all over in 30 seconds. Why would your doc want to remove this through your mouth? I can't fathom that one.
I remove Kris's PEG every 3 months - then put a new one straight back in.
When Kris had his original PEG ( inserted 3 years ago ) removed he was booked in to the operating room. But all they did was deflate the balloon and tug it on out. No sedation given or necessary.
Try not to stress about this. I'm sure others will chime in and reiterate my thoughts.

Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!
