Last Wednesday when my mom was admitted to the hospital they noticed white patchy stuff in the middle of her tongue. It hasn't gone away. I asked them to take a culture, and it came back negative for infection. I requested a brush biopsy, but the resident didn't think it was anything to be alarmed about. Given her history or oral cancer, I'm always alarmed when anything develops in her mouth. She has since been discharged from the hospital, so I made a frantic call to her ENT where she received treatment and requested an appointment. We're scheduled for Friday. Has anyone had any anything similar 1.5 years post treatment? I'm going to have to wear diapers for the next four days, this rollercoaster ride is doing a number on my stomach.
Hi-I saw your post & thought of some ideas to ask about. One is a condition called leukoplakia (my mom has a very rare & dangerous form of it)...some other types are not so bad and two would be yeast infection. I've read about it but it's been awhile...at least these are things you can ask the MD about!!! Good luck..hope this helps!

Didier, The top and tip of the tongue are not usual places for this cancer. If they tested for yeast (thrush) then it may be something called "geographic tongue". It is harmless and sometimes looks like a map with splotches and lines (hence the name geographic) The cause is not well known and it usually goes away by itself. By all means have the ENT look to be sure. Try to relax.
A defination of geographic tongue on the board is here http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/ubb/get_topic/f/1/t/000255.html , but if it is isolated to the center of the tongue this is probably not what it is. GT covers large areas and almost daily changes patterns. Remember that there are plenty of benign things this can be.....
