Don't tell him it's ok to eat. make him et because after the treatment starts, he will lose it way to fast like some of us did. I lost 70 lbs in just a few short weeks and I was doing my best not to.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Thanks everyone - what a whirlwind this week has been! He is getting surgery tomorrow at Duke. He is stage 3 - they are cutting out 1/3 of his tongue, the floor of his mouth w/ a skin graft from his upper thigh, and selective neck dissection.
We went up for our second opinion this morning (4 hour drive), had no idea it would happen TOMORROW, so we are home paying bills, arranging childcare, reeling, etc. and will get back in car at 5 am to return to Duke. He had a cancellation - next slot was over 3 weeks from now.
I borrowed a laptop to take to the hospital.
I will keep all posted.
