I have just returned from seeing my Pain Management doctor. He has written me a script for methadone three time daily. I am to stop all other meds except for Lovan and Gaberentin. I was wondering if it is normal to still have this much pain two years ex treatment

SCC Base of tongue stage 4. 10 hour operation Radical neck dissection and hemiglossectomy 23/10/06 35 Rad treatments and 3 high dose Cistplatin Dec 06 - Feb 07. Ex casual smoker 6 to 8 a day - casual drinker. Very fit and diet conscious.

I would sure think it's unusual, but again, each case is different. Have you considered a second opinion?

Age 67 1/2
Ventral Tongue SCC T2N0M0G1 10/05
Anterior Tongue SCC T2N0M0G2 6/08
Base of Tongue SCC T2N0M0G2 12/08
Three partial glossectomy (10/05,11/05,6/08), PEG, 37 XRT 66.6 Gy 1/06
Neck dissection, trach, PEG & forearm free flap (6/08)
Total glossectomy, trach, PEG & thigh free flap (12/08)

Thanks Pete, he has changed my meds again now trying a patch as I had some bad reactions to the methadone, this is my third opinion they all come up with the same answer it takes time especially with the amount of work I had done
