My sincere condolences Kalen. We will ALL miss Lani. This is just such an utter shock - just the other day we were waiting to hear what the battle plan would be.

I offer my prayers that she is now in peace and that, in time, your happy memories will be a comfort to you. I cannot imagine your shock and I pray for strength for you to get through the days ahead.

You have my deepest condolences. I am very sorry and shocked to hear she went so quickly. She was so sweet to me with personal messages and we vented to each other about things. Even though we communicated a very short time( my diagnosis was very recent) I could tell she was a wonderful person. Try to remember her with joy for the time you did have with her.
God bless you, Lani, and all her family and friends.
Sincerely,
Lucinda

Kalen your mother was a wonderful person. I know tell you something you don't know. I was just asking another member last night if they had heard from her cause it was too long since I had.
We had daily chats and she inspired me and spurred me on when I didn't think I could do it. I will always remember her as a strong beautiful person who always fought for the underdogs. Celebrate her life as she would want you to! Take solace in knowing that she is watching over you and smiling and at peace. God bless and I will keep you and your family in my prayers and thoughts.

((((Hugs)))

Kalen, You have my deepest sympathies. I always got encouragment from you mom and a good laugh daily. I will miss her terribly just like the other friends she made in the forums. She gave sound advice and was a loveable lady. May she rest in peace . We all loved her.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
--- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here

Kalen,

I'm sorry to hear this...your Mom will always be a great woman with a good sense of humor. She will be missed, if I was able to eat I would have a ketchup feast in her honor. Please know that she touched a lot of hearts on OCF.

Kalen,
My condolences to the family. Lani was a marvelously entertaining and thoughtful person. Her responses and encouragement showed a great concern and love for everyone. She certainly was proud of you.

This was her response to my inquiry about her signature line "A bend in the road is not the end of the road, unless you fail to make the turn"
I wish I knew the author so I could give him/her credit, but it's "author unknown". When I first read it, I was deeply affected, as though it had been written specifically for me, and I took it on as my Mantra.
It's from a poster on the wall at the Therapeutic Center where I first went to speech/swallow therapy this last January. I had gone through a long period of mourning my "old normal" and was in the process of accepting - even embracing - my "new normal". Of course in that acceptance, there are still some things than can improve, and I will work and strive for whatever can bring me even closer to my "old normal" - or maybe that's a "new and improved new normal", like the surgery I'm in preparation for so that I can have teeth.
Acceptance isn't giving up on what can be changed for the better, but not wasting the energy, time, your life itself on self-pity and bitterness for things that can't be changed. I have SO MUCH to be grateful for. That's not to say that I don't have my occasional foot-stomping moments, but they're not often and short-lived.
And then I always go back to my Mantra.....
