tuesday 8am they are taking out all my top teeth and 3 bottom ones.
Then thursday at 11am 2 days later they want to put in my port and peg.
then start me on chemo the following monday 4 days later.
Induction Chemo 9 weeks of taxol/carboplatin/Erbitux.

Then 2 weeks rest then 8 weeks chemo and radiation.
Then 4 weeks rest then surgery.

I thought i would need 2 weeks for teeth gums to heal but maybe that is just for radiation and it will be alright for chemo to start 6 days later/ 4 days later after peg and port operation.
Doctors screwed around and did nothing for 7 weeks now their rushing me i think. But i know i do need to get into treatment as fast as i can.
Thanks Victor Brown

Good luck Victor. Have a great Memorial weekend. Do everything you can to enjoy everything. Eat what you want and DO throw caution to the wind.

We'll be here for you every step of the way and that's a good thing to have in your corner.

Victor - good luck to you as you prepare to start your journey. I think mentally this is one of the toughest times. Re: your question I believe that the healing should be done prior to radiation - don't think it is bothered by chemo. If this is wrong - will someone please let us know so we can learn something.

I will tell you this - the most valuable piece of advice my husband received, but the hardest to follow - was to EAT LIKE HELL at this stage and gain all the weight you can. Please try and do that over this holiday weekend.

Vicotr, It won't take you much time at all to heal from the PEG and port surgery (though you may find your stomach muscles hurt for a few days after getting the PEG) so that won't be an issue with the chemo.

I think the two weeks they talk about is for before radiation healing from oral surgery because the radiation can really disrupt the healing process in your mouth. Chemo can also slow down healing, and if and when it starts affecting your white blood cells, can make you more prone to infection. But that doesn't happen right away as soon as you get chemo. My white blood cell count didn't start declining until I think about a week or two after my first chemo. Even if the same happens to you (and it doesn't always happen), by that time your mouth should have healed pretty well.

Like David, I hope you really enjoy yourself this weekend. Eat like there's no tomorrow. There will be a tomorrow to eat and enjoy your food again, but it may be a while!
