It hurts like he!! but I used a fairly warm wash cloth and soaked my neck then used the silver sulfadine and the aquaphor. It helped but I had to take off work for a week because I couldn't wear a shirt....plus I looked so bad I didn't want to scare anyone. Once I stopped rad treatments, I was almost back to normal in two weeks.

I guess eveyone is different. I used pure aloe lotion (you have to make sure it's only aloe, no alcohol or anything else) which I still use. Never had any problems.

Some of us are fortunate enough to have nothing more than a mild sunburn from RT so if you are following this thread and haven't started treatment yet don't freak out. The RO department gave me some samples called "Radiacare" and it worked fine for me. http://www.amazon.com/RadiaCare-Gel-Hydrogel-Wound-Dressing/dp/B000BF5JEQ If you decide to buy this use the OCF Amazon link.

Ask the nurses unit if they have samples - I never had to pay for mine.

One thing I must stress - DO NOT have anything on your skin during radiation. Clean and dry skin is key. Many creams and lotions can have a "bolus" effect and intensify the skin damage.

Thanks everyone. My dad switched to Aquaphor and each day, now, he gets seen by the radiology nurse who wash his mouth and apply radiagel, which he finds soothing.

My RO prescribed a moisturizer cream called Xclair that I liked a lot. It absorbed quickly into the skin and wasn't greasy. I believe Xclair is made in he UK. My RO warned me that it was expensive, not all pharmacies stock it, and insurance probably wouldn't pay for it. A local pharmacy (Elephant) did stock it and my insurance (Aetna) did pay for it.
Later, immediately after treatment, when I developed a bad radiation burn I found the grease in Aquaphor helpful.

I'll keep that in mind. So far aquaphor and the radiagel is working well.

Thanks everyone.

P.S. My father skin became worse not really just because of radiation but because he applied plain aloe (actual plant) to his skin, which felt soothing at first, but burnt him the next day (Sunday).
