Ever since I cleared the cookies, as suggested, on this new forum, I can no longer POST or update my profile from my computer at home which is running Windows 95 so I can't go to some new fancy browser. I am logged in.
If I click on MYSTUFF, I get error 'shortcut to Java script void' and nothing happens. No dropdown list, nothing.
If I attempt to POST a reply, it does nothing at all regardless of whether I click on SUBMIT or PREVIEW.
When I click on a thread to view it, I get 'an error has occurred running scripts on this page - line 1 char 0 Error invalid character code 0. Then it asks if 'I wish to continue running scripts on this page', and I reply NO and am able to read the post. While I used to get this error occasionally, I never got it on every post I tried to read. I tried disabling script debugging on Internet options and rebooted and it still happens. This I can live with, but not being able to POST or get to anyone's email address from home is bad news. I do not have the time to POST from my office computer.
The problems started happening after I cleared the cookies, but then they were upgrading the forum so often at the same time, it may have been one of the upgrades.
Please Chester, Brian, anyone, can you solve why I can no longer POST?
Thanks, Eileen

Sure sounds like you did everything possible that there was to do. . . . . maybe your computer needs surgery or some Rad Tx, but I would be more inclined to agree with David's diagnosis - throw it out! You are too nice a person and life is too precious to let a THING give you so much trouble. Now take a deep breath and repeat after me: "get a Mac, get a Mac, get a Mac!

Lastly why don't you update your operating program.Windows 95 is very out dated now,and you should be on windows ME or XP at the very least by now.

My machine is too small, too old to upgrade to new versions of windows or Explorer for that matter which may be the problem. I know I need a new one, but then I also need cable, a differnt ISP provider etc and just haven't the time to deal with it now.
I don't see why clearing cookies would have caused this. Chester???
Thanks, Eileen

Next google java script and click on free download. You can then download the new version. hope that works.

Down the JRE from this link: http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.3.1_20/index.htmlIt is a little over 5 MB in size so I hope you're on some sort of broadband connection.
I don't see why clearing cookies would have caused this. Chester???
Simply deleting your cookies should not cause this problem. Good Luck Kevin

Microsoft doesn't even support Windows '98 anymore. You can get a pretty decent "box" these days for around 300 bucks with Vista. You've been very lucky to have such a long run with such an ancient operating system and computer. I would bet that most software patches are not compatible with Windows '95 so I would be careful with that. Be sure to back up all of your important files. Forget even trying to update your OS. You need 1-2g of ram to run Vista ot even maximize XP. This is a great time to update your computer -they are dirt cheap right now.
