Deb..caregiver to husband, age 63 at diagnosis, former smoker who quit in 1997.
DIAGNOSIS: 6/26/07 SCC right tonsil/BOT T4N0M0
TREATMENT START: 8/9/07 cisplatin/taxol X 7..IMRT twice daily X 31.5.
TREATMENT END: 10/1/07
PEG OUT: 1/08
PORT OUT: 4/09
FOLLOWUP: Now only annual exams. ALL CLEAR!

Very sorry to hear about your friend Lena. I hope you find peace in knowing that she truly valued your friendship. It may not feel like it just now, but believe me, you did make a difference in her life.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Lena. She was fortunate to have you by her side as she fought this ugly monster. You no doubt gave her comfort.

Cancer of Tongue, SCC early Stage 1, Dx 3/13/07, partial glossectomy 4/14/07 found no residual carcinoma and a granular cell tumor with pseudo epitheliomatous hyperplasia.

David, if I should ever be diagnosed with a terminal condition, I pray that the Lord will love me enough to provide me with a friend such as yourself. You're truly awesome; I'm sure Lena thought so, too.

David - Lois said it beautifully. you can find comfort and a sense of well-being that you went "above and beyond" as a true friend to Lena. Condolences JaneP.


Husband: 3 SCC gum and cheek cancers 2002, 2005, 2006: surgery only. Scans clear after removal of small, well differentiated, non-invasive cancers. No radiation. 4th SCC lip diagnosed 4/13/07 - in situ, removed in biopsy. More lip removed 2/8/08 - dysplasia. 2 Biopsies 3/17/09 no cancer (lichenoids)

What a great privilege you were given - the opportunity to help Lena in this terrible battle not because she was a relative or even a close friend but because your compasion and experience were what she neeed. You certainly earned credits in the next world for your care and concern. May you never have to go through such an ordeal again.









SCC stage II Partial mandibulectomy w. neck dissection- July 2005. Renal cancer w. partial nephrectomy-Jan 2004. Breast cancer discovered in routine mammogram. Successful lumpectomy, sentinal nodes clear, RT only-2008 Reconstruction of mandible w fibula free flap-Jan 09. TORS removal of begnin pappiloma from esophagus-2010. Masectomy,rt breast 2013.

I am so sorry your friend Lena lost the battle with this horrible disease. Take heart in that you were there to help her as best you could. I'm certain she truly appreciated that.
