Brenda,
What happens when your bone goes, does ones face just cave in? I am so scared.

Partial mandibulectomy and neck dissection 2/3/07. T2NOMO.
Had 14 hour operation which included reconstruction of jaw.
Reconstruction failed. Some radiation, no chemo.

This thread may answer your question about people here who have had jawbone surgery.

Leslie

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

Oh Peace,
You just brought up one of my worst fears!
Yup---I guess it will just cave in, or worse, the tumour will 'break through' to the outside and become a whole suppurating mess.
I'm also scared stupid cos my lung (Primary) gives me NO problems, but am still here because it was jaw problems in the first place which have 'eased' since biopsy in May, but, if I'm truthful, are coming back--the pain is increasing, I feel lumps around the painful bits inside lip and into jaw, and the doc has already told me 'it's gonna grow/gat worse'.
I really have no idea Peace, and docs won't tell me exactly WHAT is gonna happen and oh boy---I'm as scared as you, believe me!
HOWEVER!!!!!! I AM DIAGNOSED as incurable. YOU aint!
So read everyone's posts about survivor stories and recovery and stuff, get some anti-anxiety meds, and keep living!
I've just done all the practical stuff I can like will-making, letters to important people, researching hospice care and pain-relief and DNR and stuff----and just carry on 'living and enjoying'
Sorry peace if this sounds not as positive as I generally try to post.
My jaw-bone is already precariously thin--can anyone answer our initial question---does face just cave in???

My jawbone was removed and replaced with bone from my back. However, it failed and I almost bled to death, they removed the bone and had to leave it as is. So I have a partial lowerjawbone
I really don't need to read the other posts. I have been there and now I am losing what little I have left. It is scary-I am not being hysterical. Brenda, I am so sorry. I have a friend whose father has a primary in lung and has been coping and dealing with it for many years. It just never grows and we are so happy. You just never know, I quess.

Brenda, my only experience is with John's lower partial jaw bone replacement [with metal] that failed after several months- note, he fell, hit his face and that's what we think dislodged it- the rest of his jaw, upper and lower remained intact after the implant was removed- I know that's not the info you are seeking but it's all I have. Hey,
I am barely holding on here. My ent has forgotten about me. I still have not heard about the biopsy. I have called his office repeatedly and told them how upset I am. He said he would call and still nothing. Today is my sons birthday and I am trying not to be depressed. How could he forget me?

Debbie,
Waiting is the hardest part. You are knocking yourself out worrying about what might be. Enjoy your sons birthday, relish in the smile on his face and find peace in his innocence. He loves you no matter what.

We're all thinking about you and praying for you.

Thanks Dr. Mike,
I am learning to just live in the moment. You have to, don't you. There is no control. I just cannot believe he forgot me, but I will just pick up my findings on mon and take them to someone to read them.
Until then, I will just be busy and calm and happy to be alive.
Thsnks for listening
