Hi all,

Last week my Dad had a bit of a choking fit. He felt like his breathing cut off. He got a cold and was all stuffed up. Since then it's happened several times. We've had trips to the emerg and the surgeons office. He felt like maybe he was choking on phlegm. The phgleg is real thin and looks like spit. The scopes show that his airways and eating tube are fine. Dr said that thin phlegm can not cut off the breathing.

What could this be? From the cold? or a spasm of some type?

Dr. put him on nexium and said it could be acid relux on the esophagus.

When he drinks water or eats it seems to stir things up. One day he's eating normal (although it always looks like a struggle and he gets red) another day he can hardly get in soup.

Right now he's having oatmeal for breakfast and sticking to Ensure for lunch and dinner.

This panics him.
Very very scary!!

Any info would be great.

Thanks
LisaB

I should mention that he had bilateral ND in mid March.

His GP says it's nasal drip. My Dad also feels that it is or could be. The GP put him on a steriod nose spray to help with nasal drip.

ENT surgeon put him on nexium for acid reflux.

So confused. This is so scary.

Thanks

HI MY PHELGM IS THICK I HAVE IT ALL THE TIME FROM RADIATION. I WAS TOLD TO GARGLE WITH A 1/2 CUP OF CARBONATED WATER. IT WORKS TO CLEAR THE THROAT BUT DOES NOT GET RID OF THE PHELGM COMPLETELY. I HAD TONGUE CANCER ON RIGHT SIDE AND ON THE LYMPHNOD. THEY DID A SELECTIVE NECK DISECTION AND REMOVED 23 LYMPHNODS. FOR PREVENTIVE REASONS GOOD LUCK
