I have some cases of Carnation, but don't see the VHC that everyone keeps mentioning. Mine are 250 calories each, & I can do 4 a day. I keep hearing about 2800 calories etc - are we drinking the same stuff?

HD,

The VHC stuff you get on-line or order through a pharmacy. It says 560cal right on the front of the can. Try going to Carnation site or doing a search on it in the forums there has been quite a bit of discussion about it in the past. But to answer your question it's not the same stuff.

HD,

I still drink the VHC to supplement my daily calories. I get mine through Walgrens or CVS pharmacy. They order it by the case and it only takes a day to get it. It only comes in Vanilla but I'm used to the taste. Sometimes I add milk and drink it with lunch or dinner. YUM, LOL

Thanks, I did go get a couple cases of the VHC yesterday. It seems to be very slow going thru the IV though, is that normal?

HD,

I never tried it through an IV but I often mix it equal parts with milk. That makes it less thick and I assume would go through the IV quicker but with equal milk you have twice as much to go through so it might take the same amount of time.

For a while I couldn't tolerate cold so I drank it room temp. I assume that room temp might not be as thick as a cold can so that may help.

HD,

Never put mine through the PEG. I know it's thick though. As bad as my throat got I struggled to swallow the VHC.

HD,

I am starting my 4th week out of treatment.
I put my VHC thru a PEG. It takes longer, but not that long. I couldn't find it where I live, but found it on the internet for $22.50 If you order 4 cases they ship free. If the can is real cold, try warming it in water first.I can't take it orally yet because my tongue is still too sensetive

You could try 3\4 TUBE OF vhc and 1\4 tube water at a time, the water will give you extra hydration and will make the VHC go down easier. Amy
