Wondering how many of us "manly men" have had a loss of libido, etc after chemo. Ok, reason I'm asking is that my wife and I are trying toget "pregnant" and recent tests have discovered an extremely low sperm count, like "0". Doc thinks there might be some hormonal change caused by the chemo (Cisplatin) and asked if I had any reduction in libido since the treatments. My immediate response was "no" but then I thought about it, and while I don't expect at the age of 49 to be running around constantly in heat like I was at 17, I think I should be a little more interested than I am. I do remember being more "interested" before all this.
Did blood tests yesterday for testosterone and FHL, will see those results later this week. Asked the oncologist, and his response was that one of the side effects of Cisplatin was a reduction in sperm production. Now he tells me, I asked several times before I started, and he said (and I have the e-mails to prove it) that there should be no problem. So that has me aggravated as well.
ARRGGHH!!! Another hassle. As you can see this isn't one of those things you would discuss with friends or male co-workers, would get bombarded by offers to "help out" Yes, I'm sure. Bob

I turned 48 in April so I spent most of the treatment at 47. From the first round of Cisplatin/5FU, I had absolutely no libido and it was many months later before I felt any stirring in the loins. It still does not quite feel the same and I notice a difference in quality and quantity, almost a year later. Ed

It took a long time. I am 16 months post Tx now. My wife's pretty easy on the eyes so I know that's not it...

During chemo I had no mojo, not even morning riser. It has come back & works fine, I'm glad to say! My only complaint is no staying power like I used to have, but it is a good 15-30 seconds, ha ha! The wife says she still loves me & it's ok! What else can she say?Maybe something to do with the catheter I had during surgery recovery. I know urination is different. Going in the middle of the night I feel like I have a bottomless bladder! So many changes, huh? Part of our new normal I guess. No idea about sperm count, I had vasectomy years ago after my 3rd daughter was born. Hope it comes back for you guys! See ya! Erik

Your not alone. I am 54 and was active in that department. Since the surgery lat July 31st I have very little interest. Don't know if it's mental or physical?
Still can't let a good looking woman pass without admiring her. It's in the genes!!!
See Ya Soon,

Also, my wife's a rather physically fit young woman in her mid 20's, so no issue there. Once things get going there's no problem, just a little slow starting these days. I think the recent instances of having to give a semen sample, at the doctor's office, in the exam room, under pressure, with no, uh, visual aids, didn't help any. Kept having flashbacks of a particular scene from the movie "The Right Stuff" and didn't know whether to hum the "Marine's Hymn" or "Up in the Air Junior Birdman." Main issue is the low sperm count anyway. We'll find out the results of the hormone tests end of week. See what the doc has to say then. May explain the results of the ovulation test Bob

Mojo would be more like a change in luck...usually from bad to good. From the sounds of the thread, though, a woody could be a mojo, but I don't believe a mojo would only be a woody. Just something to ponder. Ed
