By chance ran across a practical answer for the problem of spicy food. How to help to counteract the pain and still enjoy some of the flavor. We were having dinner with a co-worker's family from India, traditional Indian food, and I had to try at least a little of all the dishes his wife worked so hard to put together.
Turns out his wife's mother also has oral cancer, same problem with spicy food, which for someone living in India could be quite a problem. Seems the method they use is to drizzle melted butter on the spicy food, cuts the spice but not the flavor. Host's wife melted some butter, put it on my food and I pretty much stuffed myself with food I normaly couldn't have eaten.
Couple of weeks later was on a weekend holiday and wound up at a barbeque at the hotel having lamb skewers, which turned out to be heavily spiced. So, buttered up a dinner roll with lots of butter, sort of used that to spread the butter on to the lamb skewer, and bingo, was able to eat the spicy lamb without too many glasses of water.
Don't know if I've just told everyone something thay all ready know, but I found the whole thing interesting. Bob

What a great idea!!! Living in Texas I run across things that are a bit too spicy quite often. Thanks for sharing.
Take care, Dinah | | |
