I've been taking Zoloft for a year, I want to quit taking it as I'm having all the side effects listed.
Does anyone have any experience going off these drugs?

I've been on Zoloft numerous times due to many of the stresses I have faced. I have also taken myself off it for various reasons such as I haven't felt I need it anymore, or I couldn't take oral medications.

My suggestion is to consult your doctor who proscribed it. Most likely you will require tapering off slowly. Changing metobolically quickly is very dangerous. You go from one whole pill every day to every other day for two weeks, then to one half pill, etc.

You can get depressed really quickly if you don't do it right. Consult with the doc.

Marc is righ that if you are on anti-depressants, you are not supposed to cut it off at your own will because a sudden quit can cause even greater problems.You need to talk about the side effects brought by this drug with your doctor who may consider switching to another drug.The one I am taking now to release my stress has very little side effect and I have been taking it for over a year.

I have to agree with the other posts.

Please don't stop the Zoloft without talking to your doctor first. You could experience a "rebound" affect of the depression.

Dear Mar,

Please don't just quit the Zoloft. I did that with Paxil, another SSRI, and the effects were terrible. Tears, anger etc........Weaning is the only way and do that only with Doctor's approval and plan. Another drug may work better for you but you need to see you doctor first.

Thank you all for your help. When I told my PD that I didn't think I needed Wilbutin an longer
he said then quit taking it which I did and felt so bad had to go on Zoloft.
Two days I've taken just 1/2 the pill, was really sick yesterday but knowing you all survived
gives me hope, feeling OK so far today.
The best thing about OCF is we know we're not alone.

Hi.....just to let you know, I think in the past 2 yrs, I`ve been on 4 or 5 different antidepressants that just didn`t agree with me. I had such a terrible experience with Prozac that I was afraid to ever take anything else. I figured I had a good reason to be depressed, and antidepressants would make me Happy, and what did I have to be Happy about ???? Zoloft is the one that finally seems to agree with me. Am I still depressed ? Yes, but I can handle it a little better.This was my third Halloween that Frank has been in the hospital, used to be my favorite holiday, not anymore.Bottom line, I guess is life is sad and we just gotta hang onto each other.......I don`t know what I would have done the past year without this board.....it`s kept me pretty much together lots of times.......Dee

In 8 weeks now on second anti-depressent, now on prozac, seem to suit me, not happy but not doing anything else stupid!! unless of course the double dose of steriods has backed off my lupus, who knows, don't really care so long as I can get through the nights without screaming. Take care all of you, we will win in the end!!
