Hi,
I'm wondering whether any of you have been taking COX-2 inhibitor NSAIDs: Vioxx, Celebrex or Naproxen(Alleve) as part of a chemoprevention program and if so, whether you are considering stopping because of the recent adverse clinical results indicating that these COX-2 inhibitors may cause an increased chance of stroke or heart attack and that the risk increases with the doseage and amount of time the drug has been taken.
I'm currently taking 200 mg. of Celebrex daily which I started on the advice of my oncologist about a month before these recent stories about Celebrex went public. Thanks for any light you can shed on this queston - Sheldon

Sheldon, I'm not taking them now, but I did during treatment. I used Vioxx for a few weeks to help with the pain. I would check with your doctor today, if I were you.

Sheldon
I took Vioxx for 5 years, Celebrex since the Vioxx scare, (I have Lupus) my understanding of the lastest scare is it only applies if you have heart problems, so I will continue for the moment, maybe see the Doc after the holiday period.
Sunshine... love and hugs

Sheldon,

Sorry for the delayed response but I was taking Vioxx until it was pulled and then moved over to Bextra. I am not concerned and as Helen points out, the scare is mostly if you have heart problems already. The trials that are of concern showed a 2% rate of heart problems versus 1% for the control group.

I also noticed the Bextra does a great job on the jaw pain I have had since radiation.
