My dad is still in surgery . . . probably until MIDNIGHT. They had to replace his front bottom jaw bone and his chin (flap). They were able to save his lip though which is great. He did have two additional node growths but the others were clear. He had a nerve severed in the dissection. They had to use the shoulder blade from his good arm so now both sides are comprimised. We are home . . . I don't know if I will ever sleep tonight. ICU will call only if there is a problem as he won't get there till after 1 in the morning . . . this night is unbelievable. Keep praying everyone . . . thank you . . . I can't believe how long this is taking . . .

T%he longer it takes, the better the job they're doing is one way of looking at it--and your dad is sleeping peacefully through it all. Hang on....

Laura

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your father, my husband had a similar operation- upper jaw and palate, flap and bone taken from the forearm. He was in surgery for 19 hours and I will never forget how desperate I felt. However, although he looked pretty awful the first few days, very swollen, the body is amazing at healing and he was out of hospital in three weeks.

take care
